Razer BlackShark V2 X for Xbox Review – Brilliant Wired Value Across Console and PC

Written by Andy • WildStar Gaming

The Razer BlackShark V2 X for Xbox has had far more than a quick review window at WildStar. It has been used extensively across both console and PC, which makes this a long-term verdict on how it performs where it actually matters: comfort, audio quality, microphone clarity, compatibility and day-to-day reliability.

Gold • A lightweight, straightforward wired headset that delivers strong gaming audio, a clear microphone and excellent cross-platform value.

One headset, two very different setups

Our BlackShark V2 X has been used extensively on both console and PC. That matters because one of its biggest strengths is how little friction there is between the two. The analogue 3.5mm connection means there is no pairing routine, no battery to manage and no dependency on a wireless dongle. Plug it into a compatible controller or PC audio connection and it is ready to go.

Razer officially lists the Xbox-licensed model as compatible with devices using a 3.5mm audio jack, with Windows Sonic spatial audio supported on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows 10/11.

Strong gaming audio

The BlackShark V2 X uses custom 50mm dynamic drivers with a quoted frequency response of 12Hz to 28kHz. Specifications only tell part of the story, though. In extended use, the headset has consistently delivered the kind of sound profile we want for gaming: clear positional detail, enough low-end impact to give action weight, and dialogue that remains easy to pick out when a game gets busy.

It works particularly well in multiplayer games, where hearing direction and movement clearly matters more than chasing an exaggerated cinematic sound. It is equally comfortable handling single-player games and general PC use.

Light enough for long sessions

At roughly 240g, this is a genuinely lightweight over-ear headset. The padded headband and memory-foam ear cushions make that low weight count, and it has remained comfortable across long gaming sessions rather than becoming something we are eager to take off after an hour.

The closed earcups also provide useful passive isolation. They will not replace active noise cancellation, but they do a good job of reducing everyday background distraction when you are focused on a game.

The microphone does its job well

Razer uses a HyperClear cardioid microphone with a unidirectional pickup pattern. In practical gaming use it has proved clear enough for party chat, multiplayer communication and everyday voice use without turning the headset into an audio-production product it was never meant to be.

On-ear controls keep things simple, with a volume control and microphone mute switch available without reaching for software.

Wired simplicity is also the compromise

The same simplicity that makes the BlackShark V2 X easy to recommend will also rule it out for some players. It is wired, there is no Bluetooth or wireless mode, and this Xbox-licensed version is not supported by Razer Synapse. Anyone looking for extensive software tuning, wireless freedom or premium feature sets will need to move further up the range.

For us, though, that simplicity has been part of the appeal. It has worked consistently across both of the environments we actually use it in, without charging cycles, connection quirks or extra hardware occupying another USB port.

Verdict

The Razer BlackShark V2 X for Xbox is a very easy headset to live with. It is light, comfortable, sounds good, has a capable microphone and moves between console and PC with almost no fuss.

There are more feature-rich headsets available, but that misses what this model gets right. For players who want strong wired gaming audio without paying for a pile of extras they may never use, it represents excellent value.

After extensive use on both console and PC, it earns a strong recommendation from us.

WildStar Gaming score: 85/100.
