Soulframe’s Of Hook & Hound Update Adds Fishing, Wolf Companion Bonding and Dynamic Weather
Digital Extremes has released a new free update for Soulframe Preludes, bringing a selection of community-requested features to the fantasy action RPG’s ongoing closed Alpha.
Titled Preludes 16: Of Hook & Hound, the update is available now for PC players taking part in Soulframe Preludes and introduces fishing, expanded interactions with wolf pup companions, a new dynamic weather system and changes to weapon customisation.
Wolf companions get a bigger role
Players who complete The Shewolf Snared Fable can select a wolf pup companion and begin exploring the world of Alca together.
The new bonding system includes activities such as playing fetch, taking walks, feeding your companion fish and fighting alongside one another in combat. Digital Extremes says the feature will continue to develop in future updates, eventually leading towards the wolf becoming a player mount.
Fishing arrives in Soulframe
Fishing also makes its debut with six different lures and six unique species of fish to catch.
Once caught, players can cleanse the Ode corruption from the fish before deciding whether to release them or keep them to feed their wolf companion, with different rewards available depending on the choice made.
Dynamic weather changes the world
Of Hook & Hound also introduces a new dynamic weather system, bringing conditions including rainy nights, foggy mornings and scenic sunsets to Alca.
The weather isn’t purely visual either. Certain conditions can affect gameplay, with examples given by Digital Extremes including increased lightning damage and reduced enemy perception ranges.
Weapons and customisation get an overhaul
The update also revamps Soulframe’s Tempers system, giving players more control over weapon modifiers when building their loadouts.
Older weapons can be dismantled to reclaim their Tempers, while new equipment has also been introduced, including the two-handed Wreath mace, Gystalt caster staff, Grimana sidearm rapier and the Suit of The Sleeve armour set.
Soulframe continues to evolve
Soulframe Preludes remains the closed Alpha version of Digital Extremes’ upcoming fantasy title, with the studio using feedback from players to develop and test new systems ahead of a wider PC launch.
Access to the free closed Alpha is currently offered through weekly selections from players who sign up, while Founder access also provides entry. Soulframe can also be wishlisted on Steam.
