Introduction
There are plenty of Metroidvania games available today, but every now and then one comes along with its own identity. Constance is one of those games.
With its stunning hand-drawn art style, satisfying exploration and creative gameplay mechanics, Constance delivers an experience that is both challenging and rewarding. While it took me a little while to get used to everything the game was asking of me, it quickly became one of the more enjoyable indie titles I’ve played on Nintendo Switch 2.
Gameplay & Mechanics
Constance is built around exploration, platforming and unlocking new abilities as you progress through its interconnected world.
The controls feel responsive, and as you unlock more movement abilities, navigating the world becomes increasingly satisfying. The game encourages experimentation, often rewarding players who are willing to explore every corner of the map.
My biggest challenge wasn’t the game itself – it was me.
As more abilities became available, I occasionally found myself forgetting which button combinations I needed to press during faster platforming sections. There were definitely a few moments where I laughed at myself after pressing completely the wrong button. Thankfully, this felt more like a learning curve than a problem with the controls, and the more I played, the more comfortable everything became.

World & Exploration
One of Constance’s greatest strengths is its world design.
Every new area feels handcrafted, encouraging you to explore and search for hidden paths, upgrades and secrets. There’s a real sense of satisfaction when you unlock a new ability and realise it allows you to reach places you couldn’t access before.
The game constantly rewards curiosity, making exploration one of the most enjoyable parts of the experience.
Visuals & Audio
Visually, Constance is fantastic.
Its hand-drawn artwork gives every area its own personality, creating a world that feels colourful, unique and full of character. Rather than chasing realistic graphics, the game embraces its artistic style, and it works brilliantly.

The soundtrack and sound effects complement the visuals nicely, helping create a relaxing atmosphere during exploration while adding tension during more challenging moments.
What We Liked

- Rewarding exploration.
- Smooth movement and responsive controls.
- Enjoyable progression as new abilities are unlocked.
- Plenty of personality throughout the adventure.

What Could Be Better
- Some platforming sections require quick reactions.
- Remembering the growing list of abilities and button combinations can take some practice.
- Players new to Metroidvanias may find the learning curve a little challenging at first.
Final Verdict
Constance is a fantastic example of why the indie scene continues to produce some of the most creative games available.
Its beautiful presentation, rewarding exploration and satisfying gameplay kept me coming back for more. While I occasionally became frustrated trying to remember which buttons to press during the more demanding sections, that was more down to my own coordination than anything the game was doing wrong.
If you enjoy Metroidvanias that encourage exploration and reward persistence, Constance is well worth your time.
