Introduction
Deathbulge: Battle of the Bands is one of those games that immediately stands out thanks to its quirky humour, colourful characters and unusual premise. Blending turn-based RPG combat with music, comedy and a healthy dose of absurdity, it certainly isn’t short on personality.
While I can appreciate what the developers were aiming for, I ultimately found it difficult to fully connect with the experience.
Gameplay & Mechanics
Combat follows a traditional turn-based formula, but mixes in unique abilities, character synergies and resource management that keep battles interesting.
There’s plenty of depth for players who enjoy experimenting with different party combinations, and the game slowly introduces new mechanics as you progress.
Unfortunately, despite those strengths, the gameplay loop never completely clicked with me. I found myself appreciating the systems more than actually looking forward to the next battle.

Story & World
This is where Deathbulge really shines.
The writing is full of charm, awkward humour and plenty of unexpected moments that help separate it from more traditional RPGs. The characters are memorable, and the world has its own unique identity.
If you enjoy comedy-driven RPGs that don’t take themselves too seriously, there’s a lot here to enjoy.
Visuals & Audio
The hand-drawn art style gives the game plenty of personality, while the soundtrack naturally plays an important role throughout the adventure.
Everything fits the game’s offbeat style well, creating an experience that feels distinctive from start to finish.
What We Liked
- Unique and memorable visual style.
- Funny writing with plenty of charm.
- Interesting turn-based combat mechanics.
- Strong personality throughout the adventure.
What Could Be Better
- The gameplay loop didn’t keep me invested.
- Combat can begin to feel repetitive over longer sessions.
- The humour won’t land with everyone.
- It wasn’t a game that left me wanting to jump back in.

Final Verdict
There’s no denying that Deathbulge: Battle of the Bands has creativity, humour and plenty of heart. It’s clearly been made with passion and offers something genuinely different from the average RPG.
For me, though, it never became a game I was excited to return to. I enjoyed spending time with it and can absolutely see why others will love it, but it simply wasn’t the right fit for my tastes.
If you’re looking for an unconventional RPG packed with comedy and don’t mind a slower-paced adventure, this is still well worth checking out.
WildStarGaming Score: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ 70-79%
A creative and charming RPG with plenty of personality, even if it wasn’t one I felt compelled to keep playing.
