Denshattack: Off The Rail Train Ride.

Denshattack – Its colourful charm and infectious soundtrack cleverly mask a game that’s far more challenging than it first appears.

What do you get if you take a skateboarding game, add some anime visuals, a truly toe tapping soundtrack, and then replace the aforementioned skateboards with…trains?

Well the answer to that question is Denshattack, a new game from Spanish developers Undercoders, Published by Fireshine Games.

Denshattack takes you on a wild ride as you navigate twisting and increasingly complex tracks in a super speedy train carriage that you can drift, jump, grind and pull off tricks whilst doing your best to not crash (which is something I did a lot at first).

Denshattack is the kind of game that is easy to pick up and play, but difficult to master, with dozens of different tricks to pull off and obstacles to avoid, or in some cases to smash straight through! With areas often culminating in boss battles that seem to be ripped straight from the pages of a manga. While I will admit that I could never claim to be the greatest at this game, I found the experience to be both fun and challenging, and often found myself repeating tracks in order to chase a higher score or to complete objectives I missed the first time around. You unlock new options to customize your train as you play, with colour schemes and decals so you can make your rocket powered train turned skateboard your own.

Visuals really shine in Denshattack, they are vibrant and stylized, with clear influences from games like Persona, although it manages to keep its own identity with a cast of interesting and often bizarre characters.

The soundtrack for Denshattack boasts tracks from some well known and beloved composers and artists whose work has been featured in games such as Jet Set Radio and Persona, as well as titles from studios such as Sega and Capcom.

Denshatttack is not a particularly demanding game in terms of system requirements but is still well polished and optimized with no frame rate drops, stuttering, or input lag that I noticed during my playtime, even when things on screen got very hectic.

Overall, Denshattack is not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, the highly stylized visuals and intense action may not appeal to people that prefer their games more laid back and chilled out, but if you are looking for a game that is a feast for the eyes and ears, as well as being a real challenge at times then this could be the game for you.
