The NEOGEO AES+ has been pushed back to 16 September 2027, with PLAION REPLAI saying the extra time will be used to expand manufacturing, secure component supply and support a bigger long-term roadmap for the platform.

A much bigger delay than expected
The console had previously been targeting a November 2026 launch, so the move to September 2027 is a substantial delay. PLAION REPLAI says existing pre-orders remain secure, retain their place in the production queue and will not be subject to a price increase.
The company has attributed the delay to worldwide memory-chip supply constraints and the need to expand production capacity after stronger-than-expected demand from fans, collectors and retail partners.
This is not an emulation box
What makes the NEOGEO AES+ particularly interesting is the approach to the hardware itself. PLAION REPLAI describes it as a hardware-faithful reimplementation of the original Japanese console, using re-engineered ASIC chips rather than software emulation or an FPGA approximation.
The system is designed to play both new NEOGEO AES cartridges and original AES cartridges, while adding modern quality-of-life features including low-latency HDMI output, original AV output for CRT users, display and language DIP switches, and permanent high-score saves when used with a compatible memory card.
The arcade stick is part of the point
The standard NEOGEO AES+ includes a wired 1:1-style recreation of the original arcade stick using the classic 15-pin connector. That also keeps compatibility going in both directions, with original sticks supported on the new hardware and the new wired stick designed to work with the original machines.
UK pricing remains unchanged
PLAION REPLAI’s UK store currently lists the standard NEOGEO AES+ at £179.99, the Anniversary Edition at £269.99 and the Ultimate Edition at £799.99.
Launch-production customers are also being offered a Founding Supporter Bonus. Standard and Anniversary Edition buyers are set to receive a free NEOGEO AES+ Gamepad, while Ultimate Edition buyers will receive a 30% discount voucher for a future NEOGEO AES+ game purchase.
WildStar’s take
This thing is gloriously niche.
The original NEOGEO AES has always occupied a strange, fascinating place in gaming history: essentially arcade-class hardware for the home, with the price tag and mythology to match. Rebuilding that idea around real cartridge support and dedicated hardware rather than simply putting another emulator in a plastic shell is exactly what makes the AES+ worth watching.
The delay is painful, but if the extra time genuinely results in broader availability, better component supply and a stronger software roadmap, it may ultimately be the right call. This is absolutely a piece of hardware WildStar would love to get hands-on with before launch.
